What we do

At Sian Neubecker Paediatric Occupational Therapy Services (SPOTS) we aim to provide quality play-based, family-centred therapy grounded in evidence-based practice. We believe that parents are the experts in their own child and value this role in all therapy sessions.

Based in southside Brisbane, we offer a mobile clinical service, providing home visits, school/kindy/day care visits and the ability to attend equipment trials and stakeholder meetings as required. Telehealth services are also available for regionally based clients.

Our goal is to help children with a variety of needs improve their cognitive, social and motor skills and enhance their self-esteem and sense of accomplishment.

We work closely with all your child’s significant partners, to ensure effective collaboration and consistency of approaches, towards successful goal achievement.

We have operated within the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) since 2017, and Sian is experienced in completing the required documentation for Assistive Technology applications and annual Plan reviews. The practice is not currently an NDIS registered provider, but we are able to offer quality services to children whose NDIS funding is Self- or Plan-managed. Further information regarding the scheme can be found at www.ndis.gov.au/understanding

Living

We improve your child’s independence in daily tasks such as dressing, grooming, mealtimes, hygiene and other household or school activities, while always promoting their abilities within a holistic family context.

Playing

We develop your child’s physical abilities, creative thinking and social skills – all essential for confident interactions and successful play.

Learning

We promote your child’s ability to take in and organise information, express their knowledge efficiently and work as independently as possible. We aim for students to become more attentive, organised and productive with their schoolwork.

Who we are

Sian is a highly respected OT with 20 years clinical experience in goal-oriented paediatric practice. She brings her enthusiasm for working with children and their families to her practice, and has a particular passion for working with children with complex physical and neurological conditions, and assisting them to achieve their learning, living and social goals.

Sian established her private paediatric practice in 2011, in order to meet a growing demand for private services in Mackay, while providing flexibility to her own growing family. She has particularly strived to offer a service to children and their families to enable assessment and treatment in their own environments, allowing more natural carry-over of therapeutic intervention into the child’s day-to-day life. In 2020, Sian relocated to Brisbane where she is now providing services throughout the greater Brisbane region.

Sian worked for Education Queensland in various locations between 2000 and 2012. During this time, she developed her assessment and treatment skills with a broad range of school-aged children, with a variety of clinical diagnoses. She has specialist knowledge in the areas of complex seating and daily living equipment prescription, assistive and adaptive technology for learning, upper limb rehabilitation and has worked collaboratively with a range of multidisciplinary teams to achieve optimal outcomes.

Sian has worked within the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) since 2017, and is experienced in completing the required documentation for Assistive Technology applications and annual Plan reviews.

Sian is also a current member of Occupational Therapy Australia.

Why Occupational Therapy?

Paediatric Occupational Therapists are health professionals trained in the medical and behavioural sciences of neurology, anatomy, physiology and psychology. We evaluate and improve the skills a child needs for independent living, playing and learning, within the context of their own individual environments.

SPOTS offers Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment services for children from birth through to adolescence, with a range of paediatric conditions including:

  • Developmental Delay associated with Down Syndrome, Prematurity or Global Developmental Delay (GDD)
  • Neurological conditions including Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophies and Spina Bifida
  • Coordination difficulties including Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD)
  • Acquired Brain Injury
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Sensory Processing difficulties
  • Handwriting difficulties

If you have concerns in any of these areas, please contact us to discuss how we may be able to assist.

Our approach

Occupational Therapy intervention may be a short-term boost or a long-term process to build and align skills, not just to match the average child but to also realise your child’s own potential, needs and dreams.  Our approach includes:

  • Individual therapy with the child in their natural environment – their home, school, kindy or day care centre, to address his/her specific problems and tailor a program that will yield the best possible results
  • Working in consultation with parents and school staff to ensure a consistent and concerted approach
  • Promoting self-help skills for children to improve their independence and self-esteem
  • Home/school programmes which reinforce the skills developed in sessions.
